  • Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri clarified his visit to President Tinubu as a courteous gesture following the Supreme Court’s verdict
  • He emphasized that his presence in Igbedi was to highlight ongoing projects and promised to construct a road connecting Igbedi to Kaiama

In a recent development, Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has emphasized that his visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa was nothing out of the ordinary. He made this statement during an address at Igbedi community, located in Constituency 2 of Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area of the state, while on the campaign trail for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship.

Governor Diri clarified that his visit to President Tinubu was simply a courteous gesture following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the presidential election. His spokesman and a member of the Bayelsa PDP Governorship Campaign Council’s publicity directorate, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted the governor as affirming that the visit was intended for discussing important state matters with the President, who reportedly addressed these issues positively.

Addressing speculations and opposition claims, Governor Diri remained unfazed. He asserted that such propaganda was a common feature of the opposition’s political tactics.

Moreover, the Governor reaffirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming November 11 governorship election was disqualified based on the first amended list of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He urged Bayelsa’s electorate not to cast their votes for a party that was not listed on the ballot.

Governor Diri emphasized that his presence in Igbedi was not for campaign purposes but to highlight the tangible projects initiated by his administration in the community. Additionally, he assured the community that during his second term, he would oversee the construction of a road connecting Igbedi to Kaiama. This project aims to improve access to and from the Bayelsa International Airport, facilitating better transportation along the East-West road and the Delta State axis.
