JUST-IN: Diri Takes Oath Of Office As Bayelsa Governor For Second Term

The governor had earlier told his cabinet members to prepare handover notes in January.

  • Recall Diri polled a total of 175,196 votes to defeat his main rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress.
  • Dignitaries that graced the occasion included Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and former President Goodluck Jonathan among others.

Following his victory on November 11, the incumbent governor of Bayelsa state, Gov. Duoye Diri, has taken the oath of office as governor for a second term.

In the state capital of Yenagoa, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, he took the oath of office on Wednesday at 1:58 p.m.

Justice Matilda Ayemieye, the State Chief Judge, administered the oath of office to Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, former president Goodluck Jonathan, and his wife Patience Jonathan were among the luminaries in attendance at the occasion.

Thousands of beautifully-dressed citizens thronged the state’s capital Yenagoa to thank God for the governor’s victory in the November 11, 2023 election.

Former Senate Presidents Bukola Saraki and Adolfus Wabara who is now Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees as well as other National and state leaders of the party also graced the occasion.
