The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 44 individuals suspected of internet fraud in multiple locations across Enugu and Anambra States.

EFCC Spokesperson Dele Oyewale disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, noting that the arrests were carried out on September 28 and 29, following actionable intelligence linking the suspects to online criminal activities.

Oyewale revealed that the suspects exploited social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, using fake identities to deceive and defraud unsuspecting victims, particularly foreign nationals, through romantic scams.

He added that laptops and sophisticated mobile phones containing fraudulent documents were recovered from the suspects, who will be arraigned in court upon the completion of investigations.
