  • INEC announced a Peace Accord signing for political parties on November 8, ahead of the Ondo State governorship election on November 16
  • INEC reported that 71.6% of Permanent Voters’ Cards have been collected in Ondo State, enhancing transparency before the upcoming election

Ahead of the Ondo State governorship election on November 16, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that political parties contesting in the election will sign a Peace Accord on November 8 in Akure, the state capital.

This peace accord, organized by INEC in collaboration with the National Peace Committee (NPC), aims to promote a peaceful election process.

Speaking at a quarterly meeting with civil society organizations (CSOs) in Abuja, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu said a final readiness assessment will take place next week.

This assessment will involve stakeholders, security agencies, and transport providers to ensure comprehensive preparations.

Yakubu also stated that INEC has identified potential flashpoints in Ondo State and has communicated with security agencies to aid in conflict mapping and prevention.

On voter readiness, Yakubu reported that 71.6% of the 89,777 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) distributed in Ondo State have been collected, amounting to 64,273 PVCs.

To enhance transparency, INEC will soon publish the collection figures for each of the state’s 3,933 polling units on its website.

Additionally, Yakubu highlighted recent improvements in the electoral process, including enhanced voter accreditation, real-time result uploads to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal, and expanded accreditation for observers and media personnel.
