  • Earlier today, a similar incident occurred Anambra state resulting in an unspecified number of fatalities due to a stampede.
  • The stampede happened during a yuletide rice distribution event.

A devastating incident has occurred at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, on Saturday morning, resulting in numerous fatalities.

At least 10 lives were reportedly lost, with many more injured in the chaotic scene, as per PUNCH

This tragic event bears a striking resemblance to a recent incident in Ibadan, Oyo State, where a stampede at a children’s funfair claimed the lives of at least 35 children.

The Abuja incident unfolded as residents eagerly gathered to receive palliatives distributed by the church.

The event, aimed at providing relief to struggling residents, drew crowds primarily from Mpape, Gishiri Village, and surrounding settlements.

As of press time, efforts to reach Nkechi Isa, spokesperson for the FCT Emergency Management Department, for additional details were unsuccessful.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the incident occurred between 7 am and 8 am on Saturday as the crowd surged forward to receive the palliatives.
