  • Tinubu said while there might be leakages, the military hierarchy is judiciously utilising funds allocated to it.
  • Nigerian soldiers are deployed to over 30 of the 36 states in Nigeria to curb one form of insecurity or the other.

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his trust in Nigeria’s service chiefs, stating that he has no intention of investigating them.

Tinubu made these remarks during his inaugural presidential media chat in Lagos state on Monday night.

He commended the service chiefs for their efforts, emphasizing his pride in their accomplishments.

When asked about probing security chiefs due to widespread insecurity, Tinubu replied that he believes in their capabilities and will not “disrespect the institution” with a probe threat.

“I’m not probing any service chief. You cannot disrespect the institution because of threat of probe, and you cannot fight this war without investment in technology, in weaponry.”

Tinubu acknowledged the challenging conditions faced by the service chiefs, citing the country’s vast size and numerous unoccupied spaces.

“Give them credit for what they are doing, I am proud of what they are doing today. No need to probe,” he said.

According to Tinubu, Nigeria’s current security situation is an improvement compared to previous administrations, with citizens now able to travel safely.

“Today, I have confidence in my security architecture of this country. Today, you can still travel on the roads. Before now, it was impossible,” he said.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of being prepared to ensure public safety, stating that a single incident can disrupt an otherwise organized environment.

“You can’t laugh at your nation because of that. The enemies within and without are watching what you are doing. You have to be prepared 100 percent, 24 hours of the time to make sure people are safe.”

He noted that the current situation is an improvement, citing the example of safe travel between Kaduna and Kafanchan by road.

“Well, the road may not be that smooth, but gradually, we will be there,” the president concluded.
