  • The Northern Star Initiative condemned the Sokoto aerial bombing that killed at least 10 civilians, urging for an independent investigation into the incident
  • Dr. Abdullahi Idris highlighted the need for accountability, emphasizing that repeated costly errors by the military result in tragic civilian casualties

The Northern Star Initiative, a youth advocacy group, has condemned the recent aerial bombing in Gidan Bida and Runtawa communities in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack reportedly claimed the lives of at least 10 civilians and caused significant property damage.

In a statement released Thursday in Kaduna, the group’s Director General, Dr. Abdullahi Idris, expressed dismay over the tragic incident. He highlighted conflicting reports from villagers and state officials regarding what transpired.

Dr. Idris urged the federal government to establish an independent investigative committee to uncover the truth. He emphasized that incidents like this, including the bombing of Tudun Biri in Kaduna State during last year’s Eid-el Maulud celebration, demonstrate a troubling pattern of costly errors resulting in loss of innocent lives.

“These errors are becoming too frequent and have devastating consequences,” he said. “An independent, high-level investigation must be conducted immediately.

Those found responsible should be held accountable, and families who lost loved ones should receive fair and adequate compensation.”

The group called on military authorities to implement urgent measures to prevent future occurrences, ensuring such tragedies do not repeat.

The Sokoto bombing has sparked widespread concern and calls for justice as affected families and communities seek answers and accountability for the unfortunate loss of lives.
