  • The Arewa Consultative Forum condemned the Christmas Day airstrike in Sokoto, which killed 10 and injured several others, demanding accountability
  • ACF criticized the military’s insensitive response and urged authorities to investigate the incident and compensate the victims fairly

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has condemned the recent airstrike on Silame Community in Sokoto State. The military attack, which occurred on Christmas Day, claimed 10 lives and left several others injured.

In a statement issued Monday in Kaduna, ACF National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, called the incident “one mistake too many.”

He also urged authorities to investigate the attack and compensate the victims fairly.

“This tragedy is deeply troubling and adds to a growing list of similar incidents across the country,” Muhammad-Baba said.

He recalled previous attacks in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State, Adamawa, and Nasarawa, which resulted in significant casualties.

The ACF criticized the military’s response to the incident, particularly a spokesman’s claim that the attack was on a planned target. The group described this reaction as “insensitive” and demanded accountability.

“We remember how the Defence Headquarters initially dismissed the Tudun Biri attack, only to admit later it was a mistake after internal investigations. It remains unclear if those responsible faced any consequences,” the spokesman added.

Despite its criticism, the ACF praised Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his prompt response. The governor visited the affected community, sympathized with the victims’ families, and pledged medical assistance for the injured.
