  • The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, described the news of her death as a shock to Governor Douye Diri and the state executive council

Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Women Affairs, has died after battling breast cancer. She passed away on Monday morning, December 30, 2024.

According to family sources, Mrs. Bidei’s health deteriorated after she suffered a stroke and a heart attack.

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, described the news of her death as a shock to Governor Douye Diri and the state executive council.

“Our hearts go out to the bereaved family, especially her widower, Chief Jackson Bidei, and their children. Our prayers are with the family during this depressing moment of grave bereavement,” the statement read.

Koku-Obiyai praised Mrs. Bidei’s dedication to public service, highlighting her tireless efforts to promote the welfare and empowerment of women in Bayelsa State.

“As a member of the Executive Council, she played a crucial role in shaping policies and programmes that benefited the people of Bayelsa State. Her death has created a vacuum that is difficult to fill,” the statement added.

The government expressed gratitude for her impactful service to the state and offered prayers for her family, wishing her eternal rest.
