  • Governor Bala Mohammed urges President Tinubu to address suffering caused by federal policies, emphasizing the need for accountability among leaders
  • He criticizes the tax reform policy as unsustainable, stating it blocks revenue sources and exacerbates hardships for Nigerians

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the challenges posed by his administration’s policies, which he says are causing widespread suffering among Nigerians.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of Islamic scholars led by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, Governor Mohammed expressed concern over the impact of the federal government’s policies on citizens and state administrations.

“Your policies are not working, and people are suffering,” the governor stated, highlighting the pressing need for the president to address the grievances of Nigerians.

The governor emphasized that leaders are responsible for being honest with each other for the greater good, adding, “It is not arrogance or an insult, but as leaders, we must tell ourselves the truth.”

Mohammed cited the federal tax reform policy as a specific example of policies that have caused difficulties.

While acknowledging the importance of revenue generation, he noted that current measures were not sustainable, adding, “No government can function if its sources of revenue are blocked.”

The governor admitted to disagreements with President Tinubu over these issues. “Yes, we are indeed quarrelling because our people are suffering, and the president has refused to listen to us,” he said.

Governor Mohammed called on Sheikh Jingir to intervene, noting the scholar’s influence and ability to communicate with the president.

“You are one of the few personalities the president listens to. I planned to meet you on this matter because your voice matters,” the governor added.
