  • Allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement have plagued the speaker, setting the stage for this development.

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on Monday, citing numerous financial and statutory violations.

Mudashiru Obasa’s deputy, Lasbat Meranda, took over as speaker following his impeachment.

Lasbat Meranda, representative of Apapa Constituency 1, previously held the position of chief whip in the House.

The impeachment came after reports surfaced about Obasa’s involvement in the withdrawal of N43.5 billion for backup vehicles for lawmakers and other contentious activities.
