The decision to relocate the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal from Benin City to Abuja has been praised as a significant step towards ensuring justice.
In a statement issued on Friday night by the Team Asue Media Organization (TAMO) and signed by Erhabor Emokpae, the move was welcomed as a measure to provide a more secure and neutral environment for the tribunal’s proceedings.
Although no official reason for the relocation has been disclosed, TAMO stated, “This move ensures that the tribunal operates free from the pressures and tensions surrounding the case in Edo State.”
The statement emphasized the team’s belief in the judiciary’s commitment to fairness and transparency. “Relocating the tribunal to the National Judicial Institute in Abuja eliminates any possibility of local interference, ensuring that justice is based solely on evidence and legal merit,” it read.
TAMO also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempts to obstruct the judicial process. The statement alleged instances of witness intimidation, threats of violence, and attempts to prevent the inspection of BVAS records, describing these actions as efforts to manipulate the system in their favor.
“This relocation neutralizes any leverage the APC might have hoped to exert locally, guaranteeing a secure and impartial environment for the proceedings,” the group said.
Expressing confidence in Asue Ighodalo’s case, TAMO stated that their petition is supported by strong evidence and thorough legal preparation. “The strength of our case remains intact, and we are optimistic that this tribunal will uncover the truth about the election,” the statement added.
The group urged supporters of justice to remain steadfast as the tribunal continues its work, emphasizing that the relocation is a step closer to exposing the facts surrounding the election.
