The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to commence a strike across federal courts and judiciary bodies over the non-implementation of the national minimum wage and other outstanding payments.
Previous strikes by JUSUN have led to nationwide court shutdowns, causing significant disruptions to judicial processes.
In a circular dated 20 January 2025, the union directed its chapters in 11 federal judiciary institutions, including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and National Industrial Court, to notify their respective managements of the ultimatum effective 23 January.
JUSUN is demanding the implementation of the national minimum wage, a 25-35 per cent salary increase under the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUSS), and a N35,000 wage award approved last year by the federal government.
Despite efforts to address these issues, JUSUN says the federal government has failed to release the required funds. If unresolved, the strike is expected to paralyze judicial operations across the country once again.
