  • INEC urged security agencies to protect the electoral process and combat vote-buying ahead of the Anambra and FCT elections
  • INEC Chairman Prof. Yakubu emphasized lessons from the Ondo election will guide security strategies for upcoming elections in Nigeria

As preparations ramp up for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State off-cycle governorship election and the February 21, 2026, FCT Area Council elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged security agencies to protect the electoral process.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, called on Tuesday in Abuja at the first 2025 meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

Yakubu emphasized that vote-buying remains a significant threat to credible elections and urged security agencies to combat the menace effectively.

He also noted that lessons from the recent Ondo governorship election would guide future electoral processes.
