  • He assured the army leadership in Enugu that the state would continue to support the military by providing them all the necessary logistics to bring criminality to an end.

Peter Mbah of Enugu state has vowed to maintain military support to eliminate criminals and ensure Enugu’s safety.

Mbah made these remarks when Oluyemi Olatoye, the new GOC of the 82nd division of the Nigerian army, paid a courtesy visit to Government House, Enugu, on Tuesday.

The governor emphasised that development is unlikely without a secure environment.

He pledged to significantly boost Enugu’s economy and eradicate poverty, noting the state government’s productive relationship with the Nigerian army.

“It is absolutely difficult to talk about development without security,” Mbah said.

“That is why we identified security challenges as the biggest issue and are working to address it.

“We achieved relative peace in Enugu thanks to the military’s commitment. We have zero tolerance for criminality, demonstrated by our investment in security.

“Given your experience, I’m confident our relationship will improve under your leadership.”

On his part, Olatoye, commander of joint taskforce south-east “operation udoka”, stated that creating peaceful environments for socio-economic growth is his responsibility.

“I’m aware of the current situation and its potential for improvement,” he said.

“I’ll collaborate with you to enhance Enugu State. We’ll work towards achieving our discussion’s outcomes.Feel free to contact me anytime for military assistance.

“We look forward to a fruitful collaboration and improved Enugu State.”

Enugu is one of five south-east states severely affected by the proscribed IPOB militant separatist group recently.
