As the local government crisis in Osun State took a bloody turn, the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State has suggested a declaration of state of emergency in the state as solution to the unrest.

The simmering political tension in the State escalated into a full-blown violence on Monday, after the supporters of both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and APC clashed at some local government areas secretariats, leaving many dead.

Meanwhile, the state government has vehemently rejected the call for a state of emergency by the APC.

It said the state of emergency solution has been the plan of the APC all long and very reason the party is deliberately fomenting anarchy in the state.

National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru and the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, were both guests on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.

Senator Bashiru, who was asked to suggest the solution to the current political crisis in Osun State, said, “I will suggest that perhaps it will be necessary for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency.

“It has gotten to that stage where hapless people coming from farms are attacked by uncontrollable PDP thugs.”

This, Alimi outrightly rejected saying, “I call on our amiable president to reject the call of Honourable Bashiru and his cohorts. That is exactly what they are targeting, they deliberately caused mayhem in this state.

“We are going to publish the names of our members that have been killed. There is no Court of Appeal that restored them, we urge them to toe the line of peace.”

It has been reported that at least two people died in Osun State on Monday as some reinstated Local Government chairmen and councillors across the state’s 30 local government councils resumed office at their respectful local government headquarters, claiming to be enforcing a court ruling.

The attempted takeover sparked resistance in places like Oshogbo, the state capital, Ikire and Irewole local government areas of the state, leading to the death of one of the reinstated council chairmen, Remi Abbas.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of additional tactical squads to the State to bolster security and restore law and order.

The police condemned, in strong terms, the incidents that disrupted peace and safety in the state, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
