  • This is even as he downplayed El-Rufai’s defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, saying it’s inconsequential and not something to lose sleep over.

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has stated that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of the state, is now a nobody in Nigerian politics.

This is even as he downplayed El-Rufai’s defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, saying it’s inconsequential and not something to lose sleep over.

Within Nigeria recalls that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai recently quit the APC for the Social Democratic Party, SDP, stating that he sees the latter as a suitable platform for his future political engagements and activities.

Reacting to the defection, Shehu Sani, in an interview with, Daily Post, said the development would make no difference, as El-Rufai no longer holds any political relevance.

According to him, El-Rufai dumped APC for SDP out of fear of the unknown. However, he insisted that El-Rufai’s defection was of no consequence, as he no longer wields any political influence.

It may also be recalled that Senator Shehu Sani, alongside other prominent politicians in the state—such as Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, Senator Danjuma Laah, and former Governor Ramalan Yero—returned to APC a few weeks ago. During their return, Shehu Sani reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Governor Uba Sani is re-elected in 2027.
