The Ogun State Government said it has begun the refund of money to intending pilgrims, after the cancellation of the 2021 Islamic pilgrimage by the Saudi government.

This is in line with the directives of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board said the refund of payment for the year 2020/2021 hajj fare has commenced.

Recall that the cancellation of this year’s hajj to Mecca and Medinah was as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Salau Babatunde, said in a statement that intending pilgrims seeking refund should visit the Board’s Secretariat, Block B Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta with evidence of payment receipts and other documents.

Salau stressed that those willing to defer their hajj fare deposits till the 2022 exercise should notify the Board of their decision in order to have them properly documented.

He assured all intending pilgrims not to panic over rumours, saying their money was safe with the State government.
