How I gained admission into robbery after my graduation as a pickpocket — Suspect knocked down by victim

19-year-old robbery suspect, Ikechukwu Ubani, has confessed to how he got into robbery after graduating from pickpocketing in July.

Ikechukwu Ubani, was captured by the police in Lekki, Lagos, after he was knocked down by the motorist they robbed in traffic,

Ubani and his accomplice, a motorist identified as Segun Oye, 18, were arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) at Ikate Roundabout, Lekki , on Friday evening, October 8.

Ubani, an ex-convict, in his confession stated that he graduated from pickpocketing to traffic robbery around July, 2021. He added that after robbing in Ikate traffic last Friday, he thought it was successful until he noticed a vehicles crashing into the waiting okada, which he had mounted to escape.

Oye, on his part, disclosed that, apart from Ikechukwu Ubani, he is being regularly contracted by traffic robbers to ferry them to scenes of robbery and to safety after operation.

He added that before been contracted by Ubani, he was taking three guys from Ibadan to Ajah and Ikate to rob in traffic and snatch mobile phones both at night and early in the morning, maintaining that his contract fee was N50,000.

The suspects were sentenced by Lagos State Mobile Court on Friday to 12 months imprisonment.
