History of Tai Solarin University of Education
Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) has a rich history. It was established in 1978 as Ogun State College of Education and gained university status in 2005. TASUED was proclaimed a full-fledged university on the 29th of January, 2005, by the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel. The National Universities Commission (NUC) authorized it on November 28, 2005, as the 76th and first specialized University of Education in Nigeria. It is the first tertiary Institution to be established by the Ogun State Government.
The university was named after renowned Nigerian educator, social activist and humanist, the late Dr. Tai Solarin (1922–1994). His vision for education focused on developing morally upright individuals with skills and knowledge to contribute to society. This vision guides TASUED’s mission to this day.
TASUED offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in education, arts, social sciences, vocational and technical education and science. Admission into TASUED is competitive. For undergraduate programs, you need a minimum of 5 credits in relevant subjects at the Ordinary Level and a pass at the Advanced Level in relevant subjects. For postgraduate studies, you need a first degree with a minimum of second-class lower division.
The University is situated on a huge stretch of land along the Sagamu-Ore-Benin expressway in the communities of Ijagun, Imaweje, and Ijele on a lovely scenery, with the main campus set in a tranquil academic environment. Currently, the University has expanded from its original four Colleges to five, making TASUED the first university in Nigeria to have a full-fledged College dedicated to the Vocational and Technology Education Programme. Undergraduate Admission Requirements
Here are the general admission requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme for both UTME and Direct Entry Candidates are as follows:
UTME 4-year Programme
- WAEC/NECO Senior School Certificate (SSC), General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O’Level), or their equivalents with credits in five (5) subjects obtained in one sitting or six (6) credits at not more than two sittings.
- National Technical Certificate/National Business Certificate (NTC/NBC) is acceptable for Vocational courses only.
For Direct Entry 3-year Programme
- Nigeria Certificate in Education (N.C.E.) with at least Merit in 2 core subjects, GCE A Level, HND (for some courses) in relevant areas with at least Upper Credit, Cambridge (A level) Certificate, Academic Diploma from recognized Universities (for some courses) (in relevant areas) are required in addition to (1) for Direct Entry.
- Advanced National Technical/Business Certificate (ANTC, ANBC) is acceptable for Vocational courses only.
- A credit in O’Level English language is required for all courses.
Special Courses Requirements
- A credit in O’Level Mathematics is required for all Sciences, Vocational and Technical and Social Science-based courses.
- A credit in Literature in English is required for English Language.
- A credit in at least one science subject is required for Mathematics.
- Candidates wishing to study Educational Management must have obtained credit in English Language, Mathematics and Economics at the Ordinary Level.
- Credits in any two (2) of Geography, Economics, Government, Commerce, Christian Religious Knowledge, Islamic Religious Knowledge, History and Yoruba are acceptable for the study of Social Studies.
- Candidates wishing to study Counseling Psychology with teaching subject options in science and social sciences must have credit in Mathematics.
Postgraduate Admission Requirements
Postgraduate Diploma Programme
- Candidates seeking admission into the Postgraduate Diploma Programme must possess a minimum of Third Class in the Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of Lower Credit at the Higher National Diploma (HND).
- First Degree holders, irrespective of class of degree, who are currently teaching or intend to take teaching as a profession.
- HND graduates, irrespective of class or grade, who are currently teaching or intend to take teaching as a profession.
Postgraduate Diploma in Education combined with Master in Education Programme (PGDE/M.Ed)
The programme is designed for candidates without a background in Education who may wish to pursue an M.Ed. programme. The two certificates will be issued concurrently at the end of the M.Ed. Programme.
Master’s Programmes
- You must be a graduate of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun or other Universities recognized by the University Senate. You must have obtained the approved Bachelor’s Degree with at least Second Class Honors (lower division) in the field of study.
- Candidates with Third Class Bachelor’s Degrees and Postgraduate Diploma in the same subject.
- Candidates with HND (Minimum of Lower CREDIT) and Postgraduate Diploma in the course applied for.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
- You must have a Master’s degree in your area of specialization with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 or 60%.
- Candidates with holders of M.Phil. Degree in his/her area of specialization.
- Those who have a CGPA of 3.50 – 3.99 or 55% and above in the Master’s degree programme can apply.
- Candidates in (c) above will have to go through a conversion process into a PhD programme.
Special Course Requirements
- Candidates wishing to study Educational Management at the Master’s degree level must have credit in English Language, Mathematics and Economics at the WAEC/ NECO SSCE or GCE Ordinary Level. They must also have a certificate in Education.
- Candidates who want to study Guidance and Counseling Psychology at the Master’s degree level must have a credit pass in English Language and Mathematics at WAEC/ NECO SSCE or GCE Ordinary Level. They must also have a Certificate in Education.
- Candidates who want to study Educational and Media Technology at the Master’s degree level must have credit in English Language and Mathematics at the WAEC/NECO SSCE or GCE Ordinary Level. Candidates must also have a Certificate in Education.
- Candidates who want to study Educational Evaluation at the Master’s degree level must have credit in English Language and Mathematics at the WAEC/ NECO SSCE or GCE Ordinary Level.
- Candidates with a pass degree and 3 years cognate working experience are acceptable for a Postgraduate Diploma in English.
- Candidates wishing to study Business Education at the Master’s level must have a credit pass in English and Mathematics at WAEC/NECO SSCE, GCE O’L or NABTEB.
- For Science and other mathematics-related courses, a credit pass in Mathematics at the WAEC/NECO SSCE or GCE Ordinary Level is compulsory.
Minimum Duration Of Postgraduate Programmes
- Postgraduate Diploma (Full-Time Mode) 12 Months
- Postgraduate Diploma (Part-Time Mode) 24 Months
- Master’s degree by CourseWork (Full-Time Mode) 18 Months
- Master’s degree by CourseWork (Part-Time Mode) 36 Months
- Postgraduate Diploma in Education combined with Master’s degree (Full-Time) 24 Months

- Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programme 36 Months
Note: All Nigerian applicants for Postgraduate admissions must possess a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Discharge/ Exemption/Exclusion certificate from the NYSC Directorate.

Method Of Registration (Log In Procedure)
- Candidates should register online through the TASUED Admission portal at https://my.tasued.edu.ng/admission by creating an application account with their JAMB Registration Number, which will be used to confirm their names, scores, programme and passport from the JAMB CAPS.
- Each candidate is required to make a payment of N2,000.00 for the screening exercise, payable online with either a Mastercard or VISA ATM card. (Kindly print out your receipt after payment)
- Candidates must fill out and submit the online Registration Form with all relevant information. All applicants must submit and verify their ‘O’ level results using the University’s Online Result Verification System (ORVS).
- Print the Screening Slip, which includes your colour passport photo and screening details. For the screening exercise, the printed slip will function as the candidate’s identification/admission card.
