A Magistrate court sitting in Ede on Friday has reportedly granted bail to a notorious tout identified as Yemi aka “Aleeba” who allegedly raped a female student of Federal Polytechnic Ede.
As the police initiate an inquiry to sort out the situation and prepare to present the offender before an Ede magistrate court for prosecution, politicians and other prominent people have persisted in applying pressure to the victim and her family to drop the case.
Several politicians, including relatives, are reportedly circling to try to convince the family of the female student to force their ward to drop the issue, a reliable source told WITHIN NIGERIA.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the culprit was admitted to bail when he appeared before the Magistrate court in Ede on Friday.
Before report of his release went viral, the police have not in any event paraded the suspected rapist before reporters.
While sources in Ede confirmed that there was a massive jubilation at Yemi’s camp following a report of his release and that he was spotted walking freely.
A source close to the victim confirmed the culprit’s arraignment adding that the female student’s phone was seized, blocking her from divulging information to the public.
A source at Ede also told WITHIN NIGERIA that following a report of his release “Yemi’s boys are now bragging around and threatening to harm students and anyone having connection with his ordeal.”
When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Kehinde Patrick Longe said “Yes, he was arrested but I’m not aware if he was arraigned today, I’m in Abuja and as at Yesterday (Thursday) he was in our custody, that’s all I can say.”
The monarch of Aiyetoro-Budo in Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Adewunmi Adeniji Odutala has given a scorecard of his performance as he clocks 3 years on the throne.
In an interview with WITHIN NIGERIA, the monarch while announcing activities lined up for his 3rd coronation anniversary which began with installation of chiefs on Monday May 16, 2022, thanked God for sparing his life. He also spoke on other issues. EXCERPTS:
How do you feel being 3years on the throne?
First, I give God the glory over my life, my family and my kingdom as a whole. I feel so happy. This is a time of joy because it has not been an easy journey from my days as Baale to my promotion as king. We couldn’t celebrate the 1st and 2nd year because of some tussles.
Over the years, among us that were coronated, five had died, so I give God the glory for keeping me and for his undying love over me and Aiyetoro-Budo kingdom.
What are the challenges you faced over the years?
God has been faithful to me. When you have the support of your people, you’re loved by your own people, honestly I’ll say there are no challenges so to say. The challenges around here are the normal challenges that every community face, but talking about natural challenges I’ll say I’m one of the luckiest kings around. I enjoy the support of my people so well, all the communities around me cooperate with me, my chiefs and all the inhabitants of the town. Everyone wants to be associated with me, I’ll say it’s God grace.
Honestly, it’s beyond my thinking and reasoning. God has really blessed me with the gift of men.
Achievements so far?
There are lots of things lacking in Aiyetoro-Budo before I got to the throne.
Our road was so bad that I needed to do regular fixing. We can’t wait for government that’s why government put kings in communities to assist, we also need to partner the government. There was no market before, but we have earmarked 2 acres of land for it and we’ve started the construction.
There was no police presence in this community, we got a place and built it to certain level and handed it to the Nigeria Police.
I donated a building to So Safe(local security network in Ogun State)so they have their full division.
Now we have the NSDC full division here and with the help of God and the Community Development Council, we have a mini clinic in Aiyetoro-Budo today; these are things God has helped us to achieve this short period. Currently,we are also doing free medical check-up for people in the community.
What are your hopes and aspirations for the next couple of years for the community and for your throne?
I’m thinking big. I want to put the name of my community Aiyetoro-Budo on the world map . I want the world to know about my community. That’s why we’re trying to build the youth, engage them in lots of activities, trainings. I sponsor so many of them personally because I have a foundation named after my late mother that God is using me to sponsor so many youths by going school, to learn trade and hand work.
I know in the next ten years all these youths would not be useless and some of them would come back and remember where they started from, so these are the people God would use to put this community on the global stage. So, my vision for Aiyetoro-Budo is for it to be one of the greatest communities during my own time; so when you mention Aiyetoro, the first town that would come to your mind is Aiyetoro-Budo town. So, we’re trying,we’re not relenting,we’re doing everything possible. That’s why I’m working so hard that the entire community benefit from the grace.
What’s your view on the deplorable condition of the Aiyetoro/Lafenwa/ Itele-Ota road?
We’ll keep appealing, there are lots of things to be done by the government. The government should allow private partnership. Government cannot do it alone, the road is giving us issues,I don’t want to talk about it again because it is so embarrassing.
I appeal to the state government to come to our rescue, Aiyetoro to Ota is just a stone throw but we need to go through Lagos.
There are lots of opportunities the government can tap from this place if the road is fixed. Please help us fix this road.
How do you react to aspirants who bought nomination forms for N100m ?
It is quite embarrassing. I prefer not to say anything about it because Nigerians are seeing things for themselves. If ASUU can be on strike and our children are not going to school and all these people have this kind of money,it’s a slap on our face. I prefer to just keep quiet. What business are they doing to get such amount of money?
What are your expectations in the next general elections?
I have no expectations. Let me just face my community. We would keep praying for Nigeria and talk to people to get their Permanent Voters’ Card. We need to start from somewhere, we can’t continue like this.
Lastly, I want to appreciate the entire community for giving me the needed support,it’s overwhelming.
Let’s not give up on Nigeria,it would work someday.
The death of popular gospel musician, Osinachi Nwachukwu who reportedly died as a result of chest pains inflicted on her by her abusive husband left many in great shock last week.
Recall that the singer, who shot into the limelight with the hit “Ekwueme“, which has been watched 72 million times on YouTube, died in an Abuja hospital.
Findings from the sister of the deceased had revealed that, the Minister died as a result of a cluster of blood in the chest from the kick she got from her husband, Mr Peter Nwachukwu.
The sister had exposed all the ‘inhumane treatments’ her sister got from her husband, before her untimely death.
There were also several claims that Peter had been beating and maltreating Osinachi and that she had been dying in silence for so long.
But while many social media users continue in criticizing the late Minister for not leaving the marriage despite being abusive, the biblical side of her ordeal worth analysing too.
Commonsensically, it sounds so foolish and eerie being in an abusive marriage and still keep it on.
ANALYSING THE BIBLICAL SIDE
However, the other side of her ordeal may have been the “God’s mind” factor which, no doubt may be her major test of faith to entitle her a golden crown in heaven.
The question is, when God used people to show his mightiness, did he use comfort or trials? The answer is trials—God’s most used tool.
God still uses trials. God still uses storms.
“Lord, mold me the way you want”
“Do to me what you want” just as Dunsin Oyekan’s song.
How many of those who claimed to be bondservants like Apostle Paul have broad understanding of these prayer points?
They are not mere words, they are powerful prayer points. They are prayers to be said at a point of sincerity with God.
God can use trial to mold his own. God can decide to do anything with his own, he is very jealous and can do anything just to keep his sheep.
We read about the stories from the Bible of people God used. He entrusted Job, Joseph, Daniel, Moses, David, Isaiah, Paul and many others with major trials.
Most of the people we remember faced great trials.
In fact, we remember them because of how they faced their trials. Had they never faced a major trial, we probably wouldn’t know their name.
That was why Paul said that “through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:22).
The only different with that of Osinachi’s was that she died after being tried, the scripture teaches otherwise.
God has promised his own that no temptation will come upon them except what is common to humanity and that he is faithful; he will not allow them to be tempted beyond what they are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out so that his own may be able to bear it.
Then, many will still ask, if Peter, her ‘devilish hubby’ was a test of faith for her, then why did she die while being tried?
In a similar fashion, Stephen a very upright man faced great tribulation too and he died during the course of his tribulation, as stephen was being stoned to death, he saw God and Jesus standing at his right side. Then Stephen said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right side of God!”. A confirmation that he was with God.
Also, in Christianity, marriage is like shoe, those with over-size must be ready to drag it along through out life, and those with the under-size be ready to feel the pains through out life.
One thing about marriage in Christianity is that nobody drop the shoe or remove it at any point no matter how painful.
Being a vessel, it would have been so difficult for Osinachi to quit the troubling marriage.
There are point of crossroads in Christianity that one will have to make a very strong decision alone (Only you and God), a point where wolrdly counsel may no longer be important.
In the other way round, the bible only gave divorce as an option, citing ground of infidelity.
If Minister Osinachi had taken a lone decision to leave her abusive hubby, many people in her church and even online would have dragged and labelled her an Adulteress.
She may lose her spiritual warfare, some endorsement, ministerial honours but would still be alive.
The mother of four children may have lost her ground with God and still be blasting in different tongues, performing sign and wonders in churches.
To be a true Christian, you don’t set standard for God. The standard is the holy bible.
Her divorce alone could have weakened several believers who are in the same shoe.
Moreso, there are different kind of grace for man, not everybody will receive the David-like of grace.
At times, our lone decisions may not be able to convince the human logic but once God is present in every decision, it doesn’t matter what people will say, there are reward for them when obeyed, even if the reward are not earthily but heavenly.
The authorities of Federal Polytechnic Ede in Osun state on Sunday debunked reports stating that fees payable by the students have been increased.
Even as the management denied allegations that the management is making moves to proscribe the Students’ Union in the school.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that, on sighting the increment of tuition on the school portal, the students kicked against the development, while calling on the management to jettison such decision.
The students had also alleged that the Rector suspended the newly elected Independent Students Electoral Commission Chairman of the Students’ Union, describing it as a plot to proscribe the Union.
The development is coming weeks after the management of the school proposed e-voting system for the Students Union Election.
But, despite sighting the tuition increment on the school portal, a release by the Dean, Directorate of Students affairs, Dr Omotosho O.S on Friday stated that there is no iota of truth in the report of increment of fees.
Tobi, a student of Accountancy told our reporter that “ we saw the increment on our schedules, the management is just playing game.”
Another student, said the Rector authoritatively told the students that he has suspended the ISEC Chairman, alleging that it was a ploy to proscribe Students’ Union.
Meanwhile, all effort to reach the Student Union President proved abortive as he declined all calls put through.
When contacted, Dean, Directorate of Students affairs, Dr Omotosho O.S re-confirmed that there was no increment.
According to him “ there was no increment of school fees at all, particularly for our stalites.
“…for the freshers, management will take a fresh decision on that and we cannot increase school fees without the approval of the Council, the students Union will also be carried along.
Dismissing claims that the school portal was hacked, Omotosho said “ no, the school portal was not hacked, some people erroneously put it on the portal, that was why we ordered that it should be put out, the Rector was aware and that was why he ordered that it should be put out immediately, that decision not yet taken on it, final decision lies with the Council.
Asked if the increment was a proposal, he continued saying that “… if it is a proposal, it is not for the present students, it may be for the freshers and what is the business of the present students with freshers, he curiously asked.
The fresh students will come in based on fresh agreement, he said.
Speaking on the alleged plot to proscribe the Union by suspending the Students’ Electoral Commission Chairman, the Dean, Omotosho told WITHIN NIGERIA that the claim is untrue.
Omotosho said “…nobody suspended the ISEC chairman, those spreading such claims should provide a letter of his suspension, it is false.
“The ISEC is independent, the Rector cannot suspend the students’ electoral body.
“Because the examination commence tommorow, Monday, 4th of April, we directed that they will conduct the election immediately after the second semester examination.” he added.
The menace of cultism over the years has eaten deep into the educational system, as more Students are daily initiated into different cult groups across campuses.
Unlike before, cult and cult related activities are now gaining ground in one of Nigeria’s most prestigious Polytechnic, Federal polytechnic Ede in Osun State.
It was disturbing to have watched student-cultists’ demonstration in their uniform ( In touch of yellows), cruising with cars during their last paper in early August in the campus.
The Student-cultists (Alora in yellow) rallied from the school maingate to the school sport complex, where they had their meeting, a gathering celebrating the last paper of their finalist-members.
Student-cultists cruising with cars inside the campus
Worried by the evolving trend of cultism in the school, our Reporter learnt that some student leaders in the school secretly petitioned the management over the cultist-display in the campus.
They appealed to the school management to bring the identified Students to book.
Gathering to celebrate their finalist-members
Despite evidences nailing the culprits, the management have chosen silence over action.
A student comrade who spoke under the condition of anonymity expressed regret saying that with the silence of the school management on the cult display, the school which is much known for peace, morals and zero tolerance for cultism may soon be found wanting for probity.
“We have called the attention of the school management to the cultist display, with pictorial evidences and videos, the authorities claimed to be aware of the display and assured to take action but till today the story has been carpeted.
“The management cannot ignore such because they demonstrated right in from of the Administrative building to the school pavilion”.
Another student who didn’t want his name in print said the silence is dangerous and detrimental to the wellbeing of the students community.
He also decried the state of security outside the campus environment, saying that students can be instrumental if cultism is not been checked.
WITHIN NIGERIA Reporter recall that a statement on the heel of the cultist-display in August, the school management had promptly ordered the restriction of student vehicles into the campus – a directive which confirmed the consciousness of the management to the incident. (Order lifted now)
It was learnt that, despite the measures, none of the identified culprits have been summoned by the school panel.
Meanwhile, a source in the citadel confided that the management may have decided to ‘forgive’ the cultists to avoid students protest that could lead to ‘unnecessary disruption of academic calendar’, having witnessed a setback in the calendar due to ASUP crisis.
The source also hinted on how several students who had perpetrated crime have enjoyed ‘mercy’ from the management.
“… Ede Poly that I knew would have pasted their names outside the maingate and that is the end of their education here, the silence is not golden, it is dangerous for not just Students alone but the campus community”, the source added.
However, when contacted, the Dean Directorate of Students affairs, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Dr. O. S. Omotosho denied the “cultist-display” in August.
According to him “ It is outside of my purview…, but there is nothing of such, you can contact the school PRO” he said.
Meanwhile, the School PRO, O.A Lawal in a close chat also corroborated the Dean of Students’ affairs.
According to him “ I’m also repeating it now that nothing of such, the campus is calm, we have never witness any form of cultism in our citadel since the inception way back 1992, and it will never happen. It has to do with our age long tradition and motto of the institution, which is ” KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND CHARACTER. Once again, be rest assured that we have zero tolerance for any form of social vices.”
When asked if the students who were captured during the rally have been pardoned despite evidences, the school spokesman said “It was just a figment of imagination.”
He, however confirmed that no Students was tried for cultism recently “to the best of my knowledge, we have not tried any of our students, the questions of pardoning anyone is out of it” he denied.
Also contacted, the Chief Security Officer (CSO), Mr Odushina said he wasn’t aware of the cultists rally.
Meanwhile, Our Reporter consulted an Educationist in the department of Guidance and Counselling, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Dr. Omoyemiju Michael Adeniyi on the implication of the ‘silence’ on cultism of any educational institution on the Student community.
Omoyemiju said the silence is a threat to Students’ lives on campus, adding that they will not be able to move freely especially in the night.
Comparing OAU to other institutions, he said cultists are unpopular in Obafemi Awolowo University, because there have never been room for such.
“In OAU, students move freely in the night because there is nothing to scare them.”
Asked what should be the punishment for cultism in tertiary institution, Omoyemiju said “ OAU is strict and has a way of disciplining cultists, hence no student want to engage in cultism, others institution should emulate.”
“…They get sanctioned, there are standard rules for such act in every institution” he added.
Another Educationist, a senior lecturer in the Department of Guidance and Counselling, University of Ilorin, Dr Muhammed Shuaib asked the implication of the ‘forgiveness’ on the student community said cultism should not be permitted in any institution.
According to him, the security architect of a school is faulty when cultists begin to display publicly.
“Students will live in fear in any institution that grant ‘pardon’ to cultists, it is clearly stated in student handbook, the punishment is expulsion” he said.
