    NSCDC arrest 30-yr-old man for allegedly attempting to rape 4-yr-old girl in Jigawa

    A 30-year-old man identified as Bashir Abdullahi has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command for allegedly attempting to rape a four-year-old girl in Jawo Sanda Village, Kazaure Local Government Area on Saturday, 3rd October 2020.

    This was contained in a statement released by the police public relation officer in the state, Adamu Shehu.

    The PPRO said the case was reported at the Kazaure Divisional office by the father of the victim and paternal cousin of the suspect.

    According to the police PRO, the four-year-old girl’s father accused the suspect of sneaking into his house on the said day around 1pm and attempted to rape his daughter in her mother’s bedroom where she was sleeping.

    The little girl’s father told the NSCDC that if not for the arrival of her seven-year-old brother who caught the suspect and alerted his mother, the suspect would have raped the girl.

    Shehu added that the suspect was arraigned before Magistrate Court (CMC III) and has been remanded to our custody until Wednesday, 21st October, 2020 for judgment.

    A 48-year-old man, Charles Ekwe has been arrested in the Ojo area of Lagos for having carnal knowledge of his wife’s 13-year-old niece that calls him “daddy”.

    The suspect was arrested on Monday by the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

    Narrating her ordeal on Wednesday, the victim, who has been living with her aunt and the suspect since she was nine, said Mr Ekwe slept with her on many occasions.

    She further revealed that the acts occurred in the suspect’s shop and at home whenever her aunt was not around.

    “Each time daddy wanted to do it, he would show me blue film (pornography) on his phone.

    “He did it many times. I cannot count the number of times he did it. I was scared to report to my aunty because Daddy threatened to chase me out of the house and kill me if I did,” she said.

    The suspect’s wife reportedly noticed a change in the teenager’s demeanour and probed further, during which the victim opened up about her husband’s actions.

    The victim’s aunt then took her to a nearby hospital where it was confirmed that the teenager’s hymen had been broken.

    The matter was then reported to the NSCDC Gender Unit which promptly arrested the suspect.

    During interrogation, the suspect told NSCDC operatives that he only fondled the girl’s genitals. He also admitted subjecting her to watching pornography on his phone.

    The NSCDC Lagos State Commandant, Mr. Ayeni Paul, while addressing journalists, said “The sexual abuse suspect will face the full wrath of the law and will be handed over to the appropriate agency for further investigation and prosecution.

    “This is a heinous crime and all perpetrators of such, when caught, will be made to pay dearly.”

    Reiterating the Corps readiness to combat crime in the state, the Commandant said the corps would not rest on its oars in ensuring a crime-free Lagos.

    He also said the ”the gender-based unit of the Corps saddled with the responsibility of handling rape, domestic violence, sexual assault and defilement, as well as child abuse cases, has well-trained officers to handle such cases.”

    He, therefore, enjoined members of the public to report such cases to the command, for prosecution.

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) has arrested one James Agwabi for job racketeering—and found him with 30 fake appointment letters.

    He was arrested at the point of distributing the fake appointment letters of NSCDC to his victims at Duduguru village of Jenkwe development area of Obi local government area.

    James Agwabi, 35, specialised in faking and selling NSCDC and other paramilitary agencies’ appointment letters and has been on a wanted list, said Mahmud Fari, commandant of the corps in Nasarawa.

    Agwabi is part of a syndicate that has defrauded jobseekers of N13.6 million.

    The suspect confessed to being a member of a 4-man syndicate with the other three members at large.

    They are: Ishaya Ayuba Funa from Akwanga, John Musa Bagwi Gosa from Area 11 Abuja and Muhammad Muhammad from Kubwa Abuja.

    The letters have 30 different names—nine are Grade Level 08, nine copies for Grade Level 07, six copies for Grade Level 06 and six copies for Grade Level 03

    James Agwabi said, “The prices of the appointment letters varies according to grades: N550,000 goes for grade Level 08, N500,000 for Grade Level 07, N400,000 for Grade Level 06 and N300,000 for Grade Level 03 respectively.

    NSCDC said he would be charged to court as soon as the investigation is over.

    Ondo 2020: NSCDC deploys sniffer dogs, 7,079 personnel

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 7,079 personnel and sniffer dogs alongside mobile surveillance vehicles for Saturday’s Ondo governorship election.

    The Commandant-General, NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Corps spokesperson, Emmanuel Okeh, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

    Mr Gana disclosed that the deployed personnel were drawn from Lagos, Edo, Kwara, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun and Kogi states.

    He said that the deployed men were drawn from the SWAT unit, Counter Terrorism unit (CTU), Chemical Biological Radioactive Nuclear and Energy unit (CBRNE), Kernnel (K9), Disaster response unit.

    “Medical, Crisis Management, Special Force, Anti-vandalism unit and Critical Protection Unit (CIPU).

    “CIPU would be deployed for the protection of Critical Infrastructure and National Assets, which are easy targets of vandalism during and after elections.

    “The surveillance and intelligence have been deployed ahead of the election for covert operations and provision of 24 hours surveillance.

    “Personnel deployed have been trained on the protocols of COVID-19 and would all be provided with face masks and hand sanitizers.

    “The operations by the Corps during the election would be led by the Deputy Commandant General (DCG) Operations, 4 Assistant Commandant Generals and 7 Commandants,” he said.

    The CG directed Deputy Commandant General Kelechi Madu, Operations Team Lead, to ensure that personnel remained apolitical and avoid any form of compromises in the conduct of their electoral assignment.

    Mr Gana said that the Corps was prepared to cooperate and synergise with other security agencies to ensure the safety of all residents as well as electoral officials and materials before, during and after the election.

    “Synergy amongst security operatives is essential because no man can achieve success alone as good team work at all times helps guarantee huge success,” he said.

    He charged politicians within and outside the state to play by the rules, avoid violence and support the drive of President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure free and fair election at all levels.

    According to him, electoral activities should not be a ‘do or die affair’ because whether they win or lose, Ondo State remains.

    The CG urged Ondo indigenes to go out en masse to exercise their franchise without fear or favour, and in doing so, vote the candidate of their choice without any recourse to fear or intimidation.

    Accidental discharge: NSCDC official who killed SSS operative has been arrested in Osun

    An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps operative (NSCDC) who allegedly shot an operative of the State Security Service (SSS), Seyi Adebowale in Osun State have been apprehended.

    WITHIN NIGERIA recall how the incident occurred on September 15 in Kuta, Osun State, during the visit of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai to commission a bridge constructed by the Nigerian Army.

    It was gathered that the NSCDC official identified as Sunday Dada and his colleagues were said to be shooting indiscriminately into the air in a celebratory mood when a stray bullet hit the SSS officer in his abdomen.

    Adebowale was rushed to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital Osogbo, the Osun State capital where he later died on Monday, September 28, after two unsuccessful surgical operations. He was buried on Friday, October 2.

    The spokesperson for the NSCDC in Osun State, Daniel Adigun, who confirmed the incident on Sunday, October 4, said it was a case of operational error and the officer involved in the shooting has since been arrested and detained by the command.

    “We are currently conducting a (an orderly) room trial and we are on top of the situation to make sure such does not occur again.” he said.

    NSCDC official allegedly killed DSS operative in Osun

    An operative of the Department of State Services (DSS), identified as Seyi Adebowale, was allegedly shot dead by one Sunday Dada, an official of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

    According to report, the incident happened at Kuta, in Ayedire Local Government Area of the state, during a function at the palace of Olowu Kuta, the traditional ruler of the town on Tuesday, September 15.

    A community leader in Kuta revealed that Dada and his colleague, who were attached to the palace were shooting indiscriminately in a celebratory mood when a stray bullet hit the DSS officer.

    Dada was later arrested by operatives of DSS and was released to the NSCDC, Osun Command, after a week in their custody.

    Eyewitness account disclosed that some of the DSS operatives, who were deployed to the palace to maintain security at the function had earlier warned the NSCDC officers over the shooting.

    It was gathered that Seyi was rushed to Iwo general hospital, where he was first stabilised and later moved to LAUTECH Teaching hospital in Osogbo, for further treatment.

    While it was learnt that the DSS officer was first rejected by one Dr. Ayeyemi, at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital, due to insufficient space, but was later admitted after DSS officers who rushed Seyi to the hospital became forceful.

    He was later stabilised and subsequently operated by one doctor, who was simply identified as Dr Ashafa for two hours on Wednesday, September 17, after which he started responding to further treatment.

    However, Seyi started having swell stomach after some days, and his health started deteriorating, which prompted a liaison officer of DSS in the hospital simply identified as Pastor to start causing uproar and in the process put a call to the CMD, Professor Peter Babatunde Olaitan, who prescribed another operation.

    The late DSS officer was again operated and in the process went into coma, before passing away in the early hours of Monday, September 30.

    The acting spokesperson of the NSCDC in Osun, Adigun Daniel confirmed the incident.

    He claimed that the incident was a case of accidental discharge, saying the officer lost control of his weapon and a bullet mistakingly hit the DSS officer in the stomach.

    He said, “Our officer and the DSS operative have been working together before the incident. Though, NSCDC does not believe in accidental discharge, we are currently conducting room trial.

    “We are on top of the situation to make sure such incident will not occur again.”

    The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in Imo State on Saturday in Owerri paraded 29 persons arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities in various locations.

    The commandant said the suspects were arrested following a directive by Governor Hope Uzodimma to crack down on illegal mining operators in the state.

    He said the arrests were effected by a combined team involving the military, police and the Federal Road Safety Commission among others.

    Mr Elisha said he would conduct the profiling of the suspects before charging them to court.

    “We are here to work and we must carry out the governor’s directive to its fullest by ensuring that the environment is safe for all.

    “Illegal mining is impacting negatively on the lives of people in Imo.

    “It is one of the causes of landslide and heavy flooding, so we will not allow it to happen again,” he said.

    The Commandant said the feat was achieved following the synergy of operations existing among security outfits in Imo.

    Kelechi Nwokocha, one of the suspects, who pleaded for forgiveness, also told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he was in the business for seven years.

    “I was arrested at Worie River at Nekede Old Road. I am aware that we are doing illegal business and our mining activities are impacting negatively on the environment.

    “If I am given a second chance, I will not go back to illegal mining again,” he said.

    NAN reports that Mr Uzodimma had recently announced a ban on illegal mining and directed security agencies to crack down on suspects.

    Edo 2020: NSCDC deploys 13,3111 personnel, 60 sniffer dogs

    Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has deployed no fewer than 13,3111 personnel alongside 60 sniffer dogs to ensure security during the Sept. 19 Edo governorship election.

    Mr Abdullahi Gana, Commandant General NSCDC, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by the Corps Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mr Emmanuel Okeh on Wednesday in Abuja.

    Gana disclosed that the deployed personnel were drawn from the Corps Headquarters and its commands in Kogi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta and Ondo state.

    He said that the deployed staff would complement personnel of its command in Edo and the zonal command in Benin.

    He said that the deployment was to ensure that every act of electoral malpractice, violence and other social vices that could affect the smooth conduct of the elections were curtailed.

    He noted that all deployed personnel were trained on the new electoral guidelines as regards to COVID-19 before embarking on the security exercise.

    “ The corps as critical stakeholders in election monitoring,, ensures that personnel are properly guided before being fully deployed for any election.

    “Either for the provision of physical security at the polling booths, polling units or protection of the ballot boxes and electoral officers.

    “Asides from electoral areas, we will beef up security around infrastructures and national assets from being soft target of attacks by hoodlums and vandals.

    “The hoodlums unduly take advantage of election activities/period to carry out their dastardly act as well as identified black spots and other areas prone to attack and vandalism,” he said.

    The Commandant General said that the 60 sniffer dogs were deployed to INEC office for crowd control and detection of combustive elements among others.

    “Other specialised units deployed are mobile surveillance vehicles, the Special Weapon and Tactical unit (SWAT) and the Chemical Radioactive Biological and Neutral unit (CBRN) .

    “Also deployed are, Counter-Terrorism, Operations and Special Duties, Intelligence department, Medical and Disaster Management units among others,” he said.

    Gana further assured the deployed personnel of adequate provision of logistics for the operation and also cautioned that they worked in harmony with other sister agencies.

    “The corps will not tolerate any act of misconduct during this operation. I urge you to deal with the populace with high level of civility and diplomacy to protect the name and integrity of the corps.

    “To our politicians, I advise that leadership is not a do or die affair but service to humanity.

    “To the electorate, they should turn out en-masse to vote for leaders of their choice, avoid violence and allow peace to reign because anyone caught will face the wrath of the law.

    “Edo is your only state which means you do not have any other state to claim, therefore do not mortgage your conscience,” he said.

    The NSCDC boss said that the corps in addition to its deployment, had ordered the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Operations, Kelechi Madu to lead the assignment.

    “This is alongside three other Assistant Commandant Generals and seven Commandants to serve as field coordinating officers in charge of the three senatorial districts,” he said.

    He revealed that a representative of INEC Chairman and a representative of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) earlier visited the corps headquarters in Abuja on the need for training of its personnel before election deployment.

    NSCDC arrests man over alleged murder of 17-month-old step son in Jigawa

    A 40-year-old man identified as Usman Isma’il has been arrested by the men of the Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly killing his 17-month-old step son, Adamu Gambo, in Miga Local Government Area of the state.

    The NSCDC Spokesman in the state, SC Adamu Shehu, confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Thursday.

    Shehu said the suspect, a resident of Tsakuwama Village, was arrested by the NSCDC operatives on Sept. 3, at about 4 p.m..

    He explained that the suspect allegedly took the deceased to a farm on Aug. 14 and strangled him to death.

    “The operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Miga arrested one Usman Sama’ila of Duja ward, Tsakuwama Village, Miga Local Government Area for alleged murder of his 17-month-old stepson.

    “The suspect was arrested on Sept. 3, around 4 p.m., while the incident occurred on Aug. 14 when the suspect was alleged to have taken the deceased identified as Adamu Gambo to a farm and strangled him which eventually led to his death.

    “The suspect tried to cover his heinous act by relating the child’s death to cold related infections.

    “However, his wife suspected foul play, and according to her, her husband (suspect) attempted to strangle the poor child about two times, of which the second attempt was in her presence, due to his intense dislike for the child, but was not successful.

    “And after thorough interrogation by the Intelligence and Investigation team of the command, the suspect confessed to have committed the crime, saying that the baby distracted his wife from giving him (suspect) the love and attention he needed,” he explained.

    The spokesman added that preliminary medical examination on the suspect’s mental condition revealed no trace of mental disorder, saying that the suspect would be taken to a Psychiatric Hospital to properly ascertain his mental health status.

    According to him, the suspect will be charged to court after completion of investigation.

    Youths and sympathizers have stormed the streets and expressway in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State to protest the killing of their kinsman, a young man identified as Onyedikachi Nwaogu, by an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday, 8th September.

    WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that hundreds of youths marched with the body of Nwaogu during the protest yesterday, after he was allegedly killed by Inspector Robinson Otobong Abel who was forcing his way through the victim’s compound at Umuokpo community in Obingwa while evading bad roads.

    The protesters were confronted by several patrol teams of soldiers and policeman and efforts of the transition committee chairman of Obingwa Council, Chief Kingsley Nnaji, failed to sway the youths, who defied the security agents sporadic gunshots to parade the body at some media houses in Aba.

    It was gathered that the NSCDC official attached to the Akwa Ibom State command was accompanying some white men to Akwa Ibom State when he shot Nwaogu as the Hilux van in which they were travelling tried to pass through his (Nwaogu’s) compound due to the dilapidated state of the Aba- Ikot Ekpene highway in the area.

    The deceased was said to have insisted that the Hilux van should follow the Aba- Ikot Ekpene Highway as his father’s compound was not the highway. Residents of the community told journalists that the alleged killer, after barking at the deceased to make way, pulled out his gun and shot him on the legs and on his stomach.

    After the shooting, the official reportedly threw Nwogu’s body into the back of the Hilux jeep and sped off towards the state’s border with Akwa Ibom State.

    However, security men at the border were said to have arrested the NSCDC personnel and others with him while the youths set ablaze the van.

    The officer is said to have been detained at the Umuobiakwa Police Division, while the body of the deceased was deposited at the mortuary of Christian Hospital, Nlagu in Obingwa LGA.

    Meanwhile, the Abia State government has called for calm in the area and commended all the security agencies that ensured the arrest of the suspect.
